Rather, focus upon what God has done and is doing in your life and for others. The lesson for us today is to resist falling into discouragement, dissolution, and depression because of the threats and schemes of the enemy-or the evil that is in our world. He fell into his “funk” because of Jezebel’s wicked schemes against him. When Elijah heard the still small voice of God, it brought him out of the disillusionment, discouragement and depression he was experiencing-the 3 D’s.

When you are seeking God for direction in your life, understand that His voice often comes as a faint whisper. However, most often God speaks to us with a “delicate whispering voice.” To fulfil your purpose, you must learn to hear God’s “quiet” voice. I examined last week how God communicated with Elijah in a “still small voice.” ( 1 Kings 19:12) God can communicate in any way He chooses, and it may be in very dramatic ways. There is no simple formula to hearing God, but there are basic principles that each of us can learn to hear His voice, and more specifically, how God speaks to us individually. As a follower of Christ, hearing the voice of God is a normal and expected reality. Perhaps God was simply saying, “Yes, I’m with you and I want to communicate with you!”ĭid you know that hearing God’s voice should be normal for a Christian?Jesus said clearly “My sheep hear My voice…” ( John 10:27 NKJV).

In fact, I remember during the conversation that the hair on my arm “stood on end!” It was God’s presence, but as I look back on this incident, I believe the Holy Spirit was also communicating something to me. I said to him, “I wonder if we could hear God speak?” At that moment, neither of us heard God, but I remember being acutely aware of God’s presence. For some reason, I started a conversation that day with my younger brother about the reality of God and His voice. We were in the backyard of our childhood home in Ohio, where there was a large buckeye tree and sandbox for us to play in. His illness grew so intense that eventually he stopped breathing he was dead.When I was about 8 years old, I had a conversation with my 7-year-old brother. 16 The bowl of flour and the jar of oil did not run out, just as the Eternal had said through Elijah.ġ7 A little while later, the son of the woman, the house’s mistress, grew fatally ill. 14 This is the message of the Eternal God of Israel: “The flour and the oil will not run out until the moment when the Eternal showers the earth with rain.”ġ5 She did exactly as Elijah had instructed her to do, and everyone who lived in her house had food for days. Then you and your son may eat your own bread cakes. Continue what you were doing, but make a small bread cake for me first, and bring it here to me.
